What’s Wrong with the Two Party System?
The fear of having your vote result in the worst of the evils getting elected drives many voters to support the “lesser of the two evils”. Whereas a majority may actually prefer a third party candidate, this fear prevents them from casting their vote for their true preference. Since the corporate media is largely owned by individuals and groups that prefer the status quo, the ideas of third parties are not presented to the vast majority of citizens.
The simple solution is Instant Runoff Voting (IRV), also known as Ranked Choice Voting. This way you can vote your first choice, and if that person does not receive the majority (in single position elections), then your vote is automatically moved to your second choice, then third choice, and so on. There are, of course, many possible variations, some of which try to move all votes that are not needed for the first choice to win (in multiple position elections, such as a parliament), thus achieving representation for a more disparate set of viewpoints.
The current system nearly assures that one of the two parties will win. Those two parties are largely controlled by the corporate and wealthy elite, who dance in tune with the uber-elite who own the central banks. One result is that issues that would truly make a change are simply not allowed to be discussed.
Merely elevating a third party to become one of the two major parties, such as the Green Party, will ultimately result in the same problem. Quite simply power corrupts. The illicit takeover of the GPCO is a prime example. Therefore IRV and other safeguards are needed to allow, facilitate, and encourage a continuous influx of new ideas and new parties.

Local issues:
Fracking and local determination
The use of fossil fuels causes accelerated global warming and releases toxins into our environment. The use of fracking to extract fossil fuels (oil and natural gas) has additional risks and hazards for local communities. Local communities need the absolute right to protect themselves from these risks and hazards by regulating and prohibiting the practice in their communities.
